4/21/08 Emersion Design press release

The Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition (GCEC) has selected Emersion Design as a recipient of the 2008 environmental award in the business category. The award was presented during the Cincinnati Earth Day event at Sawyer Point on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

This yearly award is given in five categories, (citizen, business/organization, student, government agency, and teacher) to those who have demonstrated their dedication to the environment and its natural resources. Emersion Design is an Architectural, Planning, Interior Design, and Structural Engineering Firm. In the first eight months of existence, Emersion has become a leader in the Greater Cincinnati area for sustainable design within their field. Emersion is expanding their office space which is currently designed at the LEED CI Platinum level, helping to create a more sustainable workplace. Smaller initiatives Emersion has demonstrated include instituting a recycling program before their computers or office furniture were in place. Twenty percent of Emersion employees carpool at least one day a week or use alternate transportation such as Metro bus and bicycling. To help keep garbage out of the landfill, Emersion has a vermicompost where more than 100 worms eat coffee grounds, apple cores and other left-overs. Of Emersion’s six registered architects, two are LEED Accredited Professional who are both on the local USGBC Board. Emersion staff also conduct outreach to help educate the public about sustainability by giving various lectures and presentations. Emersion staff is actively involved within the community, volunteering time for events such as the Great American clean-up to make it a better place to work live and play. Emersion’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond our professional resumes and into our personal lives as a way of living.

Emersion Design and other award recipients received awards onstage at the GCEC Earth Day Celebration at Sawyer Point on Saturday, April 19, 2008. The Earth Day celebration is a free event open to the public featuring local environmental organizations and attractions to teach children young and old about environmental issues.
